Swapping BTC to ETH with ChangeNOW A User Experience

Today is February 10th, 2025, and I just completed a swap btc to eth transaction. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster week watching Bitcoin dip while Ethereum seems to be gaining some traction. I decided it was a good time to shift some of my holdings, and I wanted to share my experience.

Why I Decided to Swap

I’ve been holding Bitcoin for a while now, and while I still believe in its long-term potential, I noticed Ethereum was showing some promising upward movement. I read several articles (like the ones I saw mentioning a current BTC to ETH conversion rate around 27.17) and decided to take some profit from my BTC and reinvest it into ETH. I figured it was a good opportunity to diversify and potentially capitalize on Ethereum’s growth.

Choosing a Platform

This was the first hurdle. There are so many options out there! I initially looked at a few centralized exchanges like Kraken (I saw they have a BTC to ETH converter) and Coinbase. However, I’ve become increasingly concerned about security and keeping custody of my own crypto. I didn’t want to hand over my Bitcoin to an exchange and trust them to hold it for me.

Ultimately, I decided to use ChangeNOW. I’d heard good things about their privacy-focused approach and the fact that they don’t require KYC (Know Your Customer) for smaller amounts. I also liked that they aggregate rates from multiple exchanges, theoretically giving me a better deal. I did check a few other rate comparison sites like CoinGecko and Exchange-Rates.org to get a feel for the market before committing.

The Swap Process with ChangeNOW

The process itself was surprisingly straightforward. Here’s what I did:

  1. Entered my Wallet Addresses: I pasted in my Bitcoin sending address and my Ethereum receiving address. Double-checking these is crucial – a mistake here could mean losing your funds!
  2. Specified the Amount: I entered the amount of BTC I wanted to swap. ChangeNOW immediately showed me the estimated amount of ETH I would receive. I noticed the rate was around 27.41 ETH per BTC, which was slightly better than what I’d seen on CoinGecko.
  3. Confirmed the Details: ChangeNOW displayed a confirmation screen with all the details of the transaction, including the estimated exchange rate, the fees, and the addresses involved.
  4. Sent the Bitcoin: I sent the specified amount of BTC from my hardware wallet (a Ledger Nano X) to the address provided by ChangeNOW.

The transaction took about 20-30 minutes to complete. I was a little nervous during that time, but ChangeNOW provided updates on the status of the swap. Finally, I saw the ETH appear in my Ethereum wallet! I was relieved and happy with the outcome.

Fees and Rates

The fees were reasonable, around 0.5% which I felt was acceptable given the convenience and the aggregated rate. I did notice that the final ETH amount I received was slightly less than the initial estimate due to network fees, but it was within expectations. I also saw that some platforms offer cashback, but ChangeNOW didn’t at the time of my transaction.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I had a positive experience swapping BTC to ETH using ChangeNOW. It was a relatively quick, easy, and secure process. I’m glad I took the time to research different platforms and choose one that aligned with my priorities – security, privacy, and a competitive exchange rate. I’m now holding ETH and hoping to see it continue its upward trend! I’ll be keeping a close eye on the BTC/ETH price chart in the coming weeks.

My name is Amelia Stone, and I hope my experience helps you if you’re considering a similar swap.
